HP ProBook 640 G4 Review 730 Days of Professional Usage in 2026

Created ON APRIL 12, 2026
BY SHAHZAMAN BIN AZIZ
Note: This is a personal, non-affiliated review. I am sharing my direct experience after purchasing this machine with my own earnings to help other developers and entrepreneurs in Pakistan make informed decisions.

In 2024, I hit a achievement: my first payment from Google Ad Manager for my network of sites arrived, totaling around $900. For a creator, that first payout is a badge of honor & respect to his hardworl. I knew I needed to reinvest that money into a workhorse that could keep up with my growing responsibilities at MonetizeMore. I didn’t want a flashy consumer laptop; I wanted a tank. I went to Firdaus Market in Rahim Yar Khan, visited a shop called City Computers, and after an hour of hard bargaining, I secured this HP ProBook 640 G4 for 51,000 PKR.

Visual Evidence: The current state of my HP ProBook 640 G4 (April 2026). Despite being a 7th Gen model, the build quality has helped it survive the daily grind of international work.

The Multitasking Reality: 30 Tabs and 3 Companies

Most reviews test laptops by running a single benchmark. My life doesn’t work that way. On any given day, my ProBook is handling 30+ active Chrome tabs. Why so many? Because I am simultaneously managing workflows for international companies like MonetizeMore and Vidverto. This means having separate Gmail boxes open for each firm, active Slack channels, heavy Google Presentation docs, live Calendars, and analytics dashboards.

Despite the 8GB of RAM and the 7th Gen i5 processor, the machine keeps up. The Samsung 238GB SSD is the unsung hero here, ensuring that switching between these heavy web apps doesn’t result in a system hang. For a professional handling global operations, this kind of reliability in multitasking is the difference between a productive day and a frustrating one.

Development Performance: Android & Visual Studio

As a software creator, I put this i5-7200U through its paces. I have heavy IDEs like Android Studio and Visual Studio installed. To be completely honest, this is where the age of the 7th generation starts to show. When Android Studio is running, the laptop performs the tasks, but after about 10 to 20 minutes, it starts to generate heat.

It’s a manageable heat, but it’s a clear sign that the processor is working at its limit. In the 2026 market, a 10th Gen HP laptop is significantly faster and smoother than this old model. However, for web development and standard software tasks, this 2024 purchase still holds its ground surprisingly well.

The 30-Second Life-Saving Hack

This is a specific issue I’ve encountered: Sometimes, if I forget to plug in the charger and the battery hits 0% and auto-shuts down, the laptop refuses to start—even with the cable plugged in and the power button pressed. If you face this, don’t panic.

The Solution: Plug in the cable and wait for 5 minutes to let the battery gain a tiny percentage of juice. Then, long-press the power button for 30+ seconds. You will see the laptop reset its power state and start up perfectly. This trick has saved me from a trip to the repair shop multiple times.

Build Quality: The “Desk Drop” Survival

One thing that the ProBook series gets right is durability. I currently have a black safety cover on the back to protect it, but the chassis underneath is solid. I’ll be honest: I have dropped this laptop from my desk table several times. In most cases, a budget laptop’s screen or hinge would have shattered, but this G4 has survived every single fall. If you are someone who moves around a lot or works in busy environments, this level of build quality is worth every rupee of that 51,000 PKR.

Battery & Night Shifts

Two years later, I am still using the original battery. In 2026, it still charges fully in about 1 to 1.5 hours. When I’m just working on Chrome tabs and WhatsApp, it gives me a solid 2 to 4 hours of backup.

Another “hidden” favorite feature is the backlit keyboard. Working international hours often means night shifts. With the keyboard lights, I don’t need to turn on the room lights and disturb others just to type a quick message or a code fix. It’s a small detail that makes a massive difference in quality of life.

Final Verdict: An Honest Comparison

Is the HP ProBook 640 G4 the fastest laptop in the 2026 market? No. The 10th Gen models are significantly smoother and faster for modern multitasking. However, for 51,000 PKR, you are getting a professional-grade machine with an SSD and a backlit keyboard that can survive a drop.

If you are a student or a starting freelancer in Pakistan, this machine proves that you don’t need the latest tech to earn your first $900. You just need something that doesn’t break. This ProBook has been the engine behind my work at Vidverto and MonetizeMore, and despite its age, it remains a reliable partner.
